Cathedral Fire Heads There's something about cathedral wicks that just does it for me.. If they are big they soak up gallons of fuel in a single dip, burn forever, make more noise than a football crowd and can be seen from the space station. They are simple, brutal and effective. They are to fire heads what the tank is to warfare.. I love em!! :o) You dont have to make them huge though, small ones work fine as normal fire heads. They are also by far the easiest variety of wick arrangement to make and explain. The tutorial here uses 2 meters of wick for demonstration of the folding technique. The pictures at the end are of my own cathedrals which show that you can make them considerably larger than 2 meters of wick will allow. OK, on with the folding of wickage... |

Until you get this.. tuck in the ends. |
So it's nice and neat like this. |

Be careful when you are putting the awl through the material, the best way to do it is by using two differant sized awls, one thin the other thicker. Start with the thin one which should be easy to push through then use the thicker one. If this is not an option, and you only have a rather thick awl... until the hole through the middle is well made and you are able to more or less drop the eyebolt into the hole. And you're done... attach the head to your chains with the clip and go test em out. |
